As a wedding planner, I have the privilege of working with couples from all walks of life, each bringing their unique story to their special day. However, some weddings leave a lasting imprint on my heart. The intimate wedding of Justin and Genifer on December 16th, 2024 at the Garey House, was one of those unforgettable moments that will always hold a special place in my memories.
From our very first consultation, I could instantly feel the love and connection they shared, and it was clear this was going to be a celebration filled with personal touches and laughter. I’ll never forget the funny story from the first time I met Justin in person—it’s one of those moments that still makes us all laugh. The couple chose a Christmas theme for their big day, and it was absolutely perfect. With emerald and gold accents throughout the venue, the atmosphere felt truly special, blending the warmth of holiday charm with a simple elegance. This wasn’t your typical wedding, though; they decided to have an intimate micro-wedding, lasting just 4 hours. We jokingly called it the “Cliff Notes” version of a wedding—everything essential and exactly what they dreamed of, with no extra fluff.
A Christmas Wonderland with Class

The venue was transformed into a winter wonderland, with simple yet classy Christmas components that were thoughtfully incorporated throughout the day. Wreaths hung on the windows, gold ornaments sparkled on the trees, and a simple decorated Christmas tree stood proudly by the fireplace. Every corner felt cozy and festive, as if the season itself was celebrating with us.
The ceremony aisle was lined with vibrant poinsettias, their deep red and green hues bringing a pop of color to the scene. The terrace was decorated with draping as the sun was setting, creating a serene backdrop for the couple’s vows.
Thoughtful Wedding Favors & Guest Engagement
One of my favorite details from this wedding was the guest favors. Instead of typical trinkets, the couple opted for engraved wooden ornaments, each carved with the couple’s names and wedding date. These were displayed on a small tree near the entrance, inviting guests to take one home as a keepsake. I love when wedding favors are not only beautiful but also personal, useful, and these ornaments were such a perfect reflection of the couple’s style.
At each guest’s place setting, a tiny wooden deer cutout was placed, engraved with the couple’s wedding details. It was a subtle yet charming touch that tied in perfectly with the natural, woodland theme of their celebration. And as if that weren’t fun enough, each guest also found a crossword puzzle at their seat. This wasn’t your typical puzzle—this one was filled with fun facts about the couple, allowing everyone to learn a little more about their story while waiting to be released to the buffet. It was a fun and interactive way to get everyone involved in the celebration, and the guests absolutely loved it! The best part, the couple created the whole puzzle themselves, from crafting the questions, to designing the puzzle itself. Talk about a little DIY project.
To stay true to the intimate and simple elegance theme, the couple decided to forgo a traditional full buffet in favor of a few carefully curated food stations. This approach allowed guests to enjoy a more relaxed dining experience, while still savoring a variety of delicious options. The stations featured bite-sized favorites such as Chicken Parmesan Rolls, Pulled Pork Sliders, and Mini Tacos — each packed with flavor and perfect for mingling. The fun variety of dishes not only satisfied different tastes but also encouraged a lively, interactive atmosphere, as guests could sample a little bit of everything. It was a delightful, yet understated way to add a personal touch to the celebration without overwhelming the intimate vibe of the day.
Heartfelt Speeches and Fun Moments
After a delicious light buffet dinner, the heartfelt toasts kicked off with plenty of laughs. The groom’s father was the first to take the super fun retro microphone (courtesy of the DJ), offering a mix of touching advice, humor, and playful jokes. As he opened his notes, they literally tumbled to the floor — yes, just like an old-school store receipt! But despite the slight humor, his speech was filled with warmth and love, setting the perfect tone for the rest of the evening.
The couple then took the floor to deliver their thank-you speech, expressing how deeply they appreciated everyone’s attendance at their intimate celebration. They truly cherished having their closest family and friends present to witness their union. It was a beautiful moment that captured the essence of their relationship—genuine, loving, funny, and full of gratitude.

A Dance Floor Full of Light and Laughter
Once the cake was cut and the formalities wrapped up, the dance floor opened up, and that’s when the real fun began! Guests were given foam glow sticks to brighten up the space, which created such a lively and festive atmosphere. The glow sticks became part of the grand exit, as everyone waved them excitedly to bid the newlyweds farewell as they made their way into their happily ever after.
It’s moments like these that remind me why I love what I do. The couple’s wedding was not just about the decor or the details—it was about celebrating love, family, and the start of a beautiful journey together. The joy in their eyes, the laughter shared with friends and family, and the genuine warmth of the entire day made this a wedding I will never forget.
A Wedding to Remember
As a wedding planner, I’m so fortunate to be a part of these moments. It was an honor to help Justin and Genifer create their dream wedding and to witness the love they share with each other and their guests. Their intimate Christmas-themed celebration with emerald and gold accents was a true reflection of who they are—classy, thoughtful, and full of joy. I’ll cherish the memories of this day forever.

Tips for future Christmas Themed weddings
1. Choose a Timeless Color Palette
Stick to classic, sophisticated colors that evoke the spirit of the season without overwhelming the space. Think deep emerald greens, soft ivory, and rich golds. These hues create an elegant vibe and pair beautifully with twinkling lights and natural greenery.
2. Embrace Natural Elements
Incorporate the beauty of the season with subtle, natural elements. Think pine trees, holly, and eucalyptus for your floral arrangements and décor. A few carefully placed pinecones, sprigs of rosemary, or even small white birch logs can add rustic charm without taking away from the elegance of your theme.
3. Less Is More
For a truly elegant look, keep your décor minimalist. A few carefully chosen statement pieces — like a beautiful candlelit centerpiece or a delicate garland — can create a stunning atmosphere. Simple, understated beauty is often the most memorable, so avoid overcrowding the space with too many ornaments, Christmas trees, lights, or elaborate decorations.
4. Opt for Subtle Holiday Touches
Christmas isn’t just about the decorations; it’s about the feeling. Incorporate subtle holiday touches in ways that don’t scream “Christmas,” but still feel festive. Think small touches like vintage ornaments on the table, soft fairy lights, or a menu that includes seasonal treats like gingerbread cookies, coffee, or hot cocoa
5. Keep Your Attire Elegant & Timeless
For the bride and groom, less is more when it comes to Christmas-themed attire. A white or ivory gown paired with delicate lace or sequins can give just the right amount of sparkle without overdoing it. For the groom, a classic black tux or dark suit with gold or green accents can complement the theme perfectly. But most importantly, your attire should be all about YOU.
6. Create a Warm & Cozy Atmosphere
A Christmas wedding is all about warmth, both literally and emotionally. Use candles or lanterns add a cozy glow to your venue. Soft, luxurious fabrics like velvet or silk for your seating or table settings will bring an extra touch of comfort and elegance.
7. Plan a Thoughtful Seasonal Menu
A festive holiday menu can include warm comfort foods like roasted meats or a cozy station for guests to enjoy seasonal treats like mulled wine, spiced cider, or mini gingerbread cookies. Instead of a full buffet, consider a light spread of bite-sized appetizers that reflect the season, like mini quiches, stuffed mushrooms, or bite-sized chicken parmesan rolls. Similar to what we discussed in the about blog.
8. Don’t Forget the Music
Christmas music can add an extra layer of magic, but it’s all about striking the right balance. Choose softer, instrumental versions of classic carols to create a romantic atmosphere during your ceremony and dinner. Later in the evening, feel free to turn up the fun with more upbeat holiday tunes!
9. Give Guests a Thoughtful Holiday Favor
Give your guests a memento of the day with a subtle, seasonal favor. Personalized ornaments, mini bottles of champagne, or small potted plants (like holly or mistletoe) are thoughtful and simple ways to say “thank you” while keeping with the festive theme.
A simple, elegant Christmas wedding combines the best of both worlds: the timeless beauty of the season with the intimacy and love that defines a wedding day. Let these tips guide you as you plan your festive celebration — one filled with beauty, warmth, and lasting memories.
Happy planning! 🎄💍
